Should we as Christians uphold the whole You Only Live Once motto?
I remember when YOLO got itself into the trend and the hype still hasn’t died down. To date you see a lot of YOLO references around, be it social media, the hashtags, tattoos and even on food packaging (Oh yes!). YOLO has been embraced by so many people because the context behind it is that life is only a one time thing and you got to do what you got to do to live it up to the fullest.
But what does YOLO really mean for people who’ve accepted it into their  philosophy? I guess people have adopted different meanings of it. Some take it as an excuse to do whatever they want. Others have taken the idea of simply living in the moment without any consequence. Some have even gone as far as to not take into account the consequence of others.
YOLO and Beyond
YOLO is not entirely false when compared with what the Bible has to say. If you take a look at part of Hebrews 9:27, it mentions that “… people are destined to die once." That bit alone is self explanatory when it comes to understanding that life here on earth is a one time thing.
However don’t get excited just yet because, in order to get some context from that verse, we got to explore the verse in its entirety. “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgement.”
That just slaps the face of YOLO straight on. This verse is clear when it comes to saying that there ARE consequences involved in life. There will be that point when we will be judged for our actions and our response to the love that God has shown to all of us through His son Jesus Christ. To think that we are the masters of our own lives is to go against the very essence of what the Bible has to tell us and YOLO is most certainly no winner against the Bible.
Where do you stand with YOLO?
Have you ever given it much thought when you mention or hash tag YOLO? I suggest that you do when you decide to include it in one of your posts. Remember that there are consequences that follow for every thing that you do and you can either follow the hip statement that YOLO has to promote or you can follow and walk the same way as Jesus Christ did where there is sure hope and love waiting for you. God cares about what we do because He loves us and He wants us to live our one life in union with Him.
So maybe the next time you decide to hashtag a post, why not tag it with something even more cooler like #YOGO ( You Obey God Only) as mentioned by MC Jin). Since we all live only once, why not live giving Glory to our God who loves us so much that He sent His only son to set us free from sin.

My prayer to all of you today is that the Spirit lead you to seeing the truth apart from the lies the world has to share. God loves you and I love you too and I pray that your intimacy with Jesus Christ becomes stronger more than anything else in the world. Your life will never be the same again.
Many Blessings,
